Welcome break for Shrewsbury’s promotion bid

A weekend off for Town as they prepare to enter a busy and crucial part of the season, writes Shrewsbury Town blogger James Pugh.

It was disappointing not to see Town feature in the FA Cup this weekend, but it was still a great week following their impressive demolition over local rivals Hereford.

The game was marred by crowd trouble which has been well documented and blown out of proportion. Yes, no one likes to see that kind of behaviour at games, but it is rarely seen and it was a local derby.

Of all our new players this season not many people would have expected Wright to become our most influential with him continuing to score goals and create chances for others.

His form in particular has helped us into a very good position in the table as we enter a crucial point in the season which can often have a big say in where we will finish come the spring.

In transfer news Turner strengthened the squad by singing young Man City midfielder Andrew Tutte on loan.

Midfield was an area I felt we needed strengthening and hopefully Tutte’s experience playing for Rochdale this season will help him fit straight in our team with some big games coming up.

As expected Turner has used the loan market a lot this since he became manager which initially I wasn’t a big fan of.

I know it worked while he was at Hereford, but felt it was only a short term solution that doesn’t do much good in forming a proper team of players who are passionate about playing for the club.

But so far it seems I have been proved wrong this season as Town’s team seem to have a great sprit featuring loan players like Wright playing at the top of their games.

Following their mini-break the players should be refreshed and raring to go as they prepare to face mid-table Accrington on Saturday.

Town should take confidence that Accrington are vulnerable in defence, but should also take note that the opposition have had a decent home record this season and that we don’t tend to pick up many points in the north west.

I alwasy find these thoughts a good read – but ….’we don’t tend to pick up many points in the north west.’

you may find our wins so far on the road have been at Crewe, Maclesfield, Stockport and even Oldham in the JPT – you may find they are in the north west!
