Supermarket planners caused the traffic chaos

LETTER – So the motorist is being blamed for the traffic chaos in Madeley.
Was it the planners who decided to build such a narrow road or were Tesco ensuring everyone used their car park with no thought for the other traders who were trying to make a living?
Yes, we will have a lay-by for taxis because they will bring customers to our store. All it required was to build the store 12 yards further to the south and a lay-by could have been built for the post office and the traders in the square.
But that would have meant a smaller car park for Tesco and that wouldn’t do.

I agree with your comments regarding the priority that has been given to the Tesco car park, however the road is perfectly wide enough to allow a free flow of traffic throughout it’s length.
The traffic chaos is caused largeley by motorists who park at will with no consideration for the Highway Code.
The block-paved area outside the Anstice Memorial Club and even the area specifically marked for pedestrian crossing are frequently treated as a short-term car park which causes obstruction to both drivers and pedestrians alike.
This could be remedied at very little cost by putting double yellow lines from the top of the High Street to the mini roundabout beyond.

It is all well and good putting double yellows down but what does that mean to most drivers in telford? absolutely nothing!.
Nealry all drivers in this town make the rules up as they go along.

Yes, the motorist IS to blame! I dont work for Tesco, and have no inclination too. The in this age of holding out our hand and pointing the finger to blame someone else, we always forget the four other fingers pointing back at ourselves. Yes thats right, the Tesco carpark is literally a few metres physically to walk than the previously supplied carpark, yet suddenly lazyitus takes over and “its our right” to park and block the road provided. How selfish an attitude! There again, Im sure A Vail is too busy concentrating on blaming someone else….

A lay-by for traders and the post office? You mean yet another area that would soon be filled to the brim with lazy chavs parking up to save themselves a short stroll, surely?
This is yet another comment from someone looking to point the blame at others rather than accept individual responsibility.
Madeley is now spoilt for good quality car parking – Anstice and Tesco and both FREE of charge, but both would entail a (maximum) 50 yard waddle to get to the post office, obviously a bit too far for a minority.
The road is still private and when it becomes public, it will have double yellows. Not too soon either, we need to get rid of these lazy selfish individuals who block the free movement of buses and cause inconvenience to fare-paying passengers.
I hope that when the lines are painted, they are enforced, and I hope Tesco then also enforce the “mother and child” and disabled spaces which, as far as I can see, are used mainly by obese waddlers who are too fat and lazy to walk the extra 10 yards from a normal space.
Getting out to Tesco or the post office is the most exercise that many of these people get – you’d think that they might take more advantage of the opportunity to stretch their legs.
I assume that A Vail’s solution would be to knock down Tesco and let cars park on the razed site – why not tarmac over the memorial area as well, with a rolling walkway connecting to the benefits (ooops, sorry …. post) office to ensure that no danger could arise from over-use of those lazy legs?

I find myself taking the long way round and not driving on that part of the road as lazy people park all over the place, I think the council should of put double yellow lines up that street as its not wide enough to accommodate parked cars and flowing traffic.
There is always parking spaces in Tesco’s car park so its not like they have miles to walk, So stop been so lazy and park else where and Walk!
