Blog: At last! A use for Daybreak's Adrian Chiles

While I love Dara O'Briain in stand-up formats and on other shows I couldn't help thinking that Adrian Chiles was better in this particular hotseat.

There is a place for that grumpy sour demeanour after all - it's just not first thing in the morning.

Adrian's glib sense of humour and often insensitive one-liners just don't work on a lifestyle show which tackles some serious topics and, at times, heartbreaking stories.

But those Apprentice candidates, they are asking for it. At least they were this week. Please, please can Stuart "the brand" Baggs get the boot next week?

I am slowly beginning to accept that ITV didn't waste their money on Adrian Chiles, they just wasted the opportunity to use him properly.

His style is also ideal for sport, well football anyway. The overpaid, overinflated egos taking to the pitch also need to be taken down a peg or two. Let him stick to that.

I mean, give Chiles the chance to be let loose on the X-Factor lot on a Saturday night on ITV 2. I can't think of anything funnier.

And it might just save morning viewing figures - because I am also talking about The Apprentice because I have almost given up completely on Daybreak. Even the chance of Kate and Da stepping in is not enough to encourage me to switch on in the mornings.

Although that led to the ultimate in disappointment this morning. I saw this lack of a successful morning television show as the perfect opportunity to get back into listening to the radio first thing. I do love a buzzing kitchen, everyone having their breakfast together with the radio as the perfect backdrop. It's as good a way as any to catch up on the day's news before work.

But when I turned it on this morning it was Richard Madeley on Radio Two. Are we to be completely surrounded in men who refuse to grow up?

Chiles or Madeley? Frankly I went back to bed and hid under the duvet.
