Blog: As Andy Sinton left the pitch on Saturday afternoon at Solihull Moors he gave a wry smile to the visiting Telford fans who had gathered by the tunnel to applaud him off.

The Bucks’ boss followed that up with a shake of the head and a brief look to the heavens.

His body language displayed all the hallmarks of a man who had just got away with daylight robbery – his side having snuck a 1-0 win away at Solihull.

And indeed they had. Telford were on top for the opening 20 minutes and were full value for a lead given to them by Alex Meechan.

But after that it was a miracle they kept a clean sheet.

Ryan Young was outstanding in goal, producing top class save after top class save to keep his side in it.

And he was helped out by a stellar performance from the back four in front of him. Shane Killock and Liam Murray in particular headed, kicked and blocked everything the home side threw at them.

The result preserved Telford’s unbeaten start to the season and pushed them into second place in the table behind runaway leaders Alfreton.

And the game showed a different side to the free-scoring Bucks who had begun the season in the sort of form that made hitting the onion bag as easy as munching through a packet of cheese and onion crisps.

But it is days like Saturday which will define seasons. To win when you’re not at your best is the hallmark of a championship winning side.

These battling victories will help far more in the overall war than a day when the Bucks look comfortable and threaten the opposition at will.

Resilience was the worded banded around after the game and if Telford can show that same attitude in a tough trip to Corby this weekend they can hang onto the coat tails of leaders Alfreton until the sides meet next month in what could be the game of the season.
