Blog: Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Blyth Spartans was my first viewing of Telford United this season, and it fed me plenty of encouragement for the season ahead.

The Bucks were sprightly and stylish – always looking to move the ball wide and create chances.

That they couldn’t put the ball in the net – aside from an Andy Brown penalty – almost didn’t matter. It was just a delight to watch.

Blyth played their part in what was a thoroughly entertaining game and probably deserved their point for a stubborn defensive display and an energetic attacking one.

But what was even more refreshing than the Telford performance was the attitude of manager Andy Sinton.

Catching a glimpse of him on the sidelines he was constantly patrolling his technical area, heading and kicking every ball and urging his side forward at every opportunity.

And his side reflected his enthusiasm and energy.

Immediately after the final whistle he had a quick word with the players in the centre circle before heading to the tunnel.

As a sports journalist this is the moment where you wonder how long you’re going to be waiting for the gaffer, and what sort of mood he is going to be in?

Especially when his team haven’t won.

But within moments of disappearing Sinton was back. And with a big smile on his face.

He spoke of the delight he had in his players’ performance

And after that he bounded off along the touchline, almost, without wishing to cause any offence, like a springer spaniel, to speak to the rest of the media.

Having done the necessary with them he then jogged back along the bottom of the main stand with each sprightly step oozing enthusiasm.

And that certainly seems to have transpired to his team.

Telford had a spring in their step and played with a joie de vivre which was refreshing to see.

Long may it continue.
