Royal garden parties are not showcases for BNP
Friday 23rd July 2010, 10:01AM BST.
Being a guest at a Buckingham Palace summer garden party is a joy, writes Shirley Tart. Those who receive a coveted invitation see it as a real treat, for most, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime occasion.
Yesterday, Her Majesty’s tea party got more coverage than most of them do.
All thanks to the BNP’s Euro MP Nick Griffin who was invited, put on the morning suit and was promptly banned just as guests were beginning to arrive.
What a coup for the British National Party.
Because immediately Mr Griffin was wired up in one TV studio after another to express his outrage at this late withdrawal of his precious ticket.
And even other guests who were quick to say that while they hated his politics, he had been democratically elected and invited along with fellow European representatives.
True. But he had also crowed and bragged about what suddenly seemed like his social acceptance at the highest level – in the Queen’s garden.
That broke with protocol, you are not supposed to use a royal invite as a political trophy and Nick Griffin had done just that.
But why wait until he was in his party gear rather than ban him as soon as he used his invite to overtly suggest that he’d been approved by the Queen?
Doing it yesterday might have been a justifiable humiliation of the BNP leader, but he became the victim and used it as a platform for his unpleasant party.
Did the Queen herself have a hand in dismissing mouthy Nick? Who knows.
But she certainly has long experience at home, in the Commonwealth and wider world.
She is an internationalist who values all colours, creeds and cultures working and living together.
Mr Griffin sounds to be the opposite. Let’s hope the last minute ban hasn’t played right into his mucky hands.

All this could have been avoided by not inviting him. As for the queen having any say I doubt it, she does as she is told.
As for playing in to the hands of the bnp yes it has again they make them look the victim.

There would be no cakes left for the rest of the guests if the Griffin invite had gone ahead.
Why be so rude about him? What has he ever done to you?
I’m not a member of his party, but perhaps I’ll vote for him next time.
Democracy is dying in this country.
Nick Griffin is a democratically elected politician with exactly the same rights as any other MEP.
Either all MEP’s are invited or none.
This is another example of the descrimination faced by anyone who dares to question the rapidly changing face of our nation, brought about by a liberal elite who view normal people with contempt.
The 1 Million voters who chose the BNP at the European elections have been further disenfranchised by this disgraceful decision.
We the British fought against fascism 70 years ago, it appears to have been re-incarnated in another form – Liberal Fascism.
Those in power fall further out of touch with normal people every day.
“We the British fought against fascism 70 years ago”…have you tried looking in the mirror man! It was people like the BNP this country fought.
Errrm did I miss the ethnic cleansing and dgas chambers in theiir manifesto??
Give me a break…
Report abuse
If you take even the smallest look at the antecedents of the BNP, i.e. the National Front, and the British Union of Fascists (the clue’s in the name in that last one) you’ll see that the sort of people who support the BNP were very much in favour of fascism, and apologists for the Nazis.
Griffin was barred because he chose to politicise the invitation by bragging about it in the media. His fellow BNP MEP, who like him has some pretty offensive views, was allowed to attend – so it’s not a vendetta against the BNP, or even Nick Griffin – he simply breached the protocols of such a visit.
“But he had also crowed and bragged about what suddenly seemed like his social acceptance at the highest level – in the Queen’s garden”
I don’t believe that he has. Anyway, it was certain sections of the mass media and rival politicians such as Boris Johnson who first made a fuss over all this.
All Nick Griffin has done is respond to them.
He may not have “crowed” but to my knowledge he was the only one of those supposedly honoured and privileged guests to appear on GMTV claiming that his invite somehow legitimised his party and what he stood for. In doing so he lost his right to attend. I abhor all that he and the BNP stands for but if he had shut up and quietly joined other elected MEPs I would have had no major objection to him being there.
Befor mean mouthed Shirley Tart and all the other nasty people pull Nick Griffin apart, you are nothing more than a group of bullys yourselves. Mr Griffin has a right to his political beleives in his own Country. He was even attacked by some looney “gay rights activist”, whilst leaving the BBC ranting about apologies to “gays and muslims etc., well does he not realise that the Muslims would eat him alive they dispise the “gays”, also you morans, like the looney “gay chap”, get your facts right. Nick Griffin is not a bully but has the right idea like Eunoch Powell before him. Look around you?? Where is the English man gone.?? This is a Christian country. Which has now gone too far with the immigration/migration. Bit of this bit of that no culture. Realise that the draw to this Country for these kimmigrants / migrents is our NHS and social security benefits, we have worked to build this state like our family before us. I support Mr. Griffin and his pary. The rest of you just rant and rave like a load of vulturs just banding together, follow the crowd bullies. Shirly Tart you are spinless grow a backbone.
Well that’s certainly a venomous unintelligent outpouring Josie. In fact very similar to the racist drivel Nick Griffin spouts off, quite chummy with him are you?
And it’s also quite ironic that you are unable to spell the name of the other openly racist pratt you admire so much – it’s Enoch Powell, a Eunoch is a gay man in past times employed to look after women because he wouldn’t jump on them.
You may not feel stupid but boy do you sound it!
It’s equally ironic that you can’t spell ‘eunuch’ – and they were actually castrated men, not necessarily gay.
One all so far!!
Silly person, if all you an do is pick on my spelling when you are not knowledgable enough to know the differance betweet an “gay” person and a casterated man. Then feel very sorry for you. lol

I love it that your cannot write the word Gay without using quotation marks, as if secretly you don’t really think that they are.
Keep up the entertainment!
Oh My!
Good handle considering your superbly ignorant understanding of what a eunoch is :)
Case of a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, methinks :)

Eunoch Powell…hmmm, a typo or what? As for your other offerings the NHS would cease to be were it not for migrants. The great city of London and most of our financial infrastructure would also be hit. We need migrants as much as they need us. We are not some isolationist Christian country but are part of the international community. We are not actually a Christian country despite that claim often being made. Our monarch may also be head of the Church of England but this nation is actually secular.

I suggest before you accuse people of being ‘morans’ you learn how to spell the word.

Shirly Tart shame on you, spreading your own brand of hatred for a man who is simply sticking up for his Country GREAT BRITIN he is not a bully, you and the rest of the small minded pre-judmental idiots are the nasty ones. Nick Griffin and others beleive that immigration/migration has really gone too far, this Country has no loger got a culture of its own, people have lost the freedow of voicing thier own opinion for fear of being discriminated against. Long may peole like Nick Griffin uphold the voice of the realy British citizen who wishes to keep out traditions and Christian festivals without having to say “happy holidays” instead OF “HAPPY CHRISTMAS” etc., The other religions that are now in this country are the one who hold contemp on predudice. Muslims do not accept the gay community, or would accept any of thier family marrying a British person. Lets face it we are a soft touch for the lot of the immigrants/migrents. NHS – Benefits – Council housing. Education. this country broke the sprit of Eunch Powell who predicted the state of this country and you and your biggots broke his sprit, he died a broken man. Now you are persecuting Nick Griffin. you are a load of bullies. Shirly Tart you are dispicable printing your self opinionate spew in our local paper. disgraceful person
Report abuse
Are you and Josie the same person by any chance?
What a load of claptrap. Nick Griffin is a true patriot, by voicing what the majority of British people fear to. They are terrified of being branded racist for expressing their views. Is this country still allowing ” Freedom of Speech”?. Nick Griffin was delighted to have been invited to the Palace and was saying so, when the establishment politicians felt they could undermine him by making the Palace officials ban him. What a fiasco this country is becoming. We are the laughingstock of the world. The USA have such contempt of us that they DEMAND our industrialists and ex ministers to attend on them. It is time the british people wake up and get rid of this political correctness.
Mr Griffin does not voice the majority view as the less than 1 million votes the BNP gained show. To claim that he and the BNP speak for most of us is arrogant to say the least and the voting patterns in recent years show that they are very much a minority party.
I think it is 1 million and growing…
And just you wait until Dave gets his way and Turkey join the EU… then it will be up much more. Admittedly by then we will be so swamped with Muslims that there will be a danger of the Taliban getting voted in here…

It is about time that the British people realised that democracy is ALMOST dead. The ‘Government’ has, over the years, created a situation where they can control virtually everything we say, do or think. The media hype over Mr. Griffin’s visit was probly artificially created to give them a feeble excuse,( the only one that they could conjur up), to ban his visit.Almost without exception, the banning of a duly elected MEP was said to be wrong by the other Palace guests and members of the general public.A massive mistake by ‘Government’ and officials who have yet again overstepped the mark
Report abuse
Maybe when the Islamic flag is fluttering over the palace and Downing Street the leftish fools that control us will hand their heads in shame. The only party of and for the British banned from a supposedly British Palace, ummmmmmmm smell the coffee please!!!!

Lovley, and it will happen. Even during the football, pub landlords were told they had to display all countries flags and not just that of England. Its going to get much worse. Christmas cards have been banned in the company where I work for the past two years if they have the name Christmas on them. It has to be “Happy Holidays” or the silly “cool yule” type. How dreadful. Some companies do not allow Christians to wear a crucifix. But the Burka can’t be banned according to Damian Green as it would be to “un British”. Nick Griffin has a place in this Government the sooner the better

Pub landlords were told no such thing. That was a Facebook rumour started by I wonder which group?

Gimme a break please, promoting racist views such as Nick Griffin’s will not eradicate the multi racial social differences in this country, it will only fuel them
Whoever put the ‘common’ in ‘commonsense’ must have been having a laugh because I can’t see much of it displayed in the these responses.
I’m ashamed to live in the same country as some of you people.
It’s not ‘racist’ to tell the truth about the failed ‘multicultural’ expermiment that was forced upon us.
For far too long the word ‘racist’ has been used by the multiculturalists to kill legitimate, open and honest debate about immigration. It’s been used to slander ordinary, decent people who have spoken out against the forced change that they’ve seen within their country due to mass immigration.
There is nothing racist about wanting Britain to remain British.
No-one has done more to stifle an adult debate on immigration than the far right. It’s not easy to have any sort of conversation with convicted anti-Semites who still refuse to rescind their holocaust denial, despite nuumerous public opportunities to do so.

Out of interest, what do you count as being ‘British’? Is it just being born here? Is it being born here and being white & Christian? Is it being granted residency? Do we mind about Austrians, Americans, Germans etc ‘coming over here and stealing our jobs’? How many generations after you family has moved to Britain are needed before you are considered British? What do you think about the British going moving all over the world?
To me, you’re British if your passport says so. I don’t care where you come from or what you look like.
It’s a sad day if someone like this EVER has control over this country.
Tim,
Most people would agree that years of unchecked immigration has been a disaster for Britain and many other European countries – Just look at the troubles we’re now seeing in France for example.
However,I don’t think anyone should ever blame the immigrants themselves for the crises. The blame lies with our governments both past and present.
As for the definition of being ‘British’? – It depends on what you mean really.
you have your’s and fair enough, you’re entitled to it.
Personally, I believe that there are two definitions. The first is ‘civically British’ i.e anyone (of any ethnicity) who holds a British passport.
The other definition is being British in the ethnic sense.
what is being British in an ethnic sense? surely that means being French, Italian, German, et etc etc, as ‘britain’ has been invaded so many times by so many races over the years one can never really tell ones true origins – I bet there are no true anglo saxons left, and even then were they all genetically pure – guess not.
Are the true “Britons” the Welsh?
Noone bothered invading them properly over the years due to a lack of resources…
Report abuse
Not so, this is a myth parroted by the left to deny us our heritage.
Recent studies have shown that large numbers of British people can trace their origins back to the last ice age.
Why is it that everyone else in the world is allowed to celebrate their identity and we the British are denied ours?
And, Mr Whittall, you will find a large number in this country still believe we’re in the last ice age.

Well Tim
Lets all roll over then shall we and forget that most of us do have a long family history of being British, thats at least what my grandfather and father and all past generations fought and died for during various wars. All we want to do is maintain our Country and our traditions as British as possible.

You might like to check out the list of casualties from the 2nd world war here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties
or consider this:
The Indian Army during World War I, sometimes called the British Indian Army, contributed a number of divisions and independent brigades to the European, Mediterranean and the Middle east theatres of war in World War I. One million Indian troops would serve overseas, of whom 62,000 died and another 67,000 were wounded. In total 74,187 Indian soldiers died during the war.
Plenty of ‘nasty foreigners’ fought and died (on ‘our’) side in both World Wars.

They are all British, most being born in England, the exception being Philip who is a naturalized citizen. Their roots however can be traced back to England, Germany, Denmark, Russia and Scotland.

Do you not see the irony of what you have written. Scotland and Wales are part of the UK whereas Ireland is not. The Scottish and Welsh Nationalists seek merely to represent the interests of their nation states in respective assemblies. The British Nationalists (or should they be English Nationalists) do not have such a benign agenda as can be seen from their history and origins (Oswald’s fascists and the National Front) and their own material. An avowedly racist party which currently seeks to scaremonger by instilling fear of all things Islamic is not an English equivelant of the SNP or Plaid Cymru. That is why most people in this country distrust the BNP.

I have left 2 replies, why have they NOT been put on,?????????????????????

Possibly because your reply to #12 is not even a faintly veiled threat…it’s a very clear ‘I know who you are’ (so watch your back) threat. This is why most people distrust the BNP and its supporters. Thanks Mike, you’ve saved me and others lots of typing and leafleting.

It’s interesting though Minty that you get a certain amount of racism if you are a scot, are irish or welsh or not shropshire, not cornish or possibly eastern european but not as a rule until you open your mouth.
If you are black, asian or chinese however you can expect and often receive abuse or hurtful unwarranted comments purely because of your colour never mind all the other small minded reasons for certain people to see themselves as better than anyone else and have what they think is some sort of elitist ancestry.
Queen Victoria wanted the British Empire to stand in Splendid Isolation but ironically only at the expense of the riches of other colonies.

Both of my grandfathers fought the Germans during the Second World War. Like millions of other Britons, they were driven by a strong sense of patriotism and the desire for Britain to remain British and safe from foreign invasion.
They didn’t fight the Germans – they fought against the fascism that was threatening to overtake Europe.
The very fact that you seek to characterise the Second World War in terms of a conflict between races shows just what a limited and simplistic view you have.
If you took the trouble to look at the early policies of the Nazi party in 1930s Germmany, or the policies of other Fascists such as Mussolini of Franco during that era you will find much in common with the policies of the BNP – and look how that earlier dalliance with Fascism turned out.
Why can you people never learn from history?

The war generation themselves will say that they fought the Germans. They don’t use or even recognize Nu Lab/EU speak.

My views on immigration and multi culturism which have been inflicted on this country by successive governments without any mandate from the people are possibly stronger than anyone else’s on this stream. If however, the only remedy to halting this ongoing change in our country/society is to bring the BNP to power then I will stick with allowing uncontrolled, mass immigration without batting an eyelid.
If the plea from the BNP apologists is that our country has been harmed by immigration to the point where they feel justified in supporting the BNP, then all I can say is think again and think hard because nothing but nothing could be worse than having a BNP Government.
At the risk of sounding insulting which is definately not intended but merely to wrap this up in as few words as possible, I can only conclude that those who support the BNP are either totally ignorant of the aims, philosophies and policies of that party and don’t know what they are supporting or, they do know what they are about and support them notwithstanding. Either way, the fact remains that those who support the BNP are a pretty unsavoury bunch who should not be given any leeway at all, let alone go within a mile of Buck House.

Once again, we are subjected to a biased article, by a member of the NUJ – which forbids its members to report truthfully about the BNP.
Nick Griffin was genuinely pleased at receiving his invitation to the palace, and he was one of 8,000 people who received an invitation – picking on one person like this is not the British way. Also denying him entry to it was an attempt to ridicule him and all of the patriotic members of the BNP, and the million British people who voted for us in the Euro elections.
You and some of your respondents are still hypnotised into believing that a lie is the truth. When in fact the reality is that the current Establishment are the un-British and fascist traitors, who deny freedom of choice, thought and expression.
Britain is currently locked into an Orwellian 1984 nightmare, and the ONLY political party exposing this appalling mess, is the British National Party.
Most people want to hear the truth and they must be told what is really going on in our country. The BNP are the defenders of British culture, and most people are now aware of that fact. Also, when you attack us, more people will want to know more, and then they’ll stumble upon the truth, as I did some years ago.
