Battle of the Bands 2008

untitled-8.jpgThe Shropshire Star’s Battle of the Bands reaches its climax over the next few weeks, with ten finalists selected from the original 47 entries.

VOTING HAS NOW CLOSED over who goes into the two finals nights at the Buttermarket in Shrewsbury on March 23 and 30.

But you can still follow the links on this page to hear songs from all ten finalists, and then see the results of the online poll of ShropshireStar.com visitors at the bottom of this page.

The final vote will count for the majority of the overall marks, with the rest falling to our judges.

The top five will go through to the grand finals night on March 30, when up £6,000 worth of prizes will be up for grabs. The best of the rest will then play at their own night on March 23. Tickets will cost £5, with a £7 charge on the door.

Rules: Voting closed at midday on Wednesday March 19. No employees of Midland News Association or their relatives may enter. The editor’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Only one vote per IP address / computer. Any further votes may be disregarded. The top five bands will play in the finals night at the Buttermarket on March 30, with the other five playing at the Buttermarket on March 23.

Can You Eros? is a four-piece band from Telford who list a number of influences in their musical style including Aerosmith, The Kooks and Arctic Monkeys.

Cold TrainCold Train
Cold Train Live is a continuous mixed set, performed by Ross Hitchin, from Telford. He uses synthesisers, sequencers and live projected graphic visuals.

DezimaDezima
Dezima, from Telford, have been together for around a year, but have played 50 gigs in that time, from The Haygate to the Little Civic.

Fight The BearFight The Bear
This four-piece band hails from Bishop’s Castle, fusing together a modern stomping approach to the ska, rock, punk and indy genres.

Enter / ExitEnter / Exit
Enter / Exit are an acoustic skiffle duo from Newport. The members, Josh and George, both go to Adams Grammer School.

Icelandic Traffic BadgersIcelandic Traffic Badgers
The Iceland Traffic Badgers began life in 2004 and play a mix of indie, rock and acoustic.

MadisonMadison
Madison are a four-piece classic/soft/pop/rock band, who aim to “bring classic rock back to the centre stage”.

Pocket RocketPocket Rocket
Nikki Corfield and Mike MacDonald began working together five years ago and have developed their band with a number of new members.

Rhythm ZooRhythm Zoo
Rhythm Zoo, from north Shropshire, are a new band with traditional R&B roots, playing classic blues with a modern soul slant.

The Small Time CrooksThe Small Time Crooks
The Small Time Crooks are based in north Shropshire play a mix of alternative music, although they also enjoy acoustic gigs.
