Veteran central defender Richard Brown has left Market Drayton Town to join South League Midlands One League side Romulus.
“We could not guarantee him regular first team football and in consideration of the way he has helped us out, have waived normal transfer protocol to enable his move,” said manager Andy Pryce.
“I fully appreciate that, at his age, he wants first team football. We thank him for the fine job he’s done for us and wish him well for the future.”
Brown is one of several players signed mid-season to plug the gaps in Town’s ranks caused by the big player reshuffle following Simon Line’s departure to manage Hednesford.
He’s put in some impressive performances, especially when Town’s patched up team was at its lowest ebb, struggling to cope with the UniBond League South’s big guns.
But now, with most of Drayton’s once-departed back at Greenfields and Line returning to his old job as manager after Tuesday night’s home game with Cammell Laird, he feels its time to go.
