Hundreds of people are expected to turn out for a vigil to remember the life of a 14-year-old Shrewsbury boy who died after he was hit by a car.
Family and friends of Ben Somers will hold a minute’s silence and a parade of cars as part of the event on Sunday night – just over a year after he died.
The youngster died after he was struck by a car while he rode a bike near to Harlescott crossroads in Shrewsbury in October 2008.
Whitchurch Road, at its junction with Harlescott crossroads and Meadow Farm Road, will be closed from 7.30pm to 8pm for the vigil. A parade of vehicles from Whitchurch Road into Shrewsbury town centre will also take place as Ben loved cars.
The event itself is due to start at 7pm when members of Shropshire Cruise car club and friends and relatives of Ben will meet at the B&Q car park near the junction. A minute’s silence will be observed at 7.30pm.
Today Ben’s mother Mandy, of Field Crescent, Harlescott, said: “It’s lovely that so many people are still thinking about him.”
