Shropshire’s Adrian Gunnell is on collision course with the biggest name in snooker when the Maplin UK Championship comes to Telford next month.
Gunnell will meet Ronnie O’Sullivan in the first round at the International Centre in snooker’s second biggest tournament – should the Telford cueman come through two qualifying matches in Prestatyn at the end of this month.
A tough passage to his home town tournament awaits Gunnell, however, who will have to beat twice former World Championship finalist and former UK Champion Matthew Stevens in qualifying to set up a meeting with O’Sullivan.
The UK Championship will be held between December 5 and 13.
l Gunnell was today getting some match practice as he played in a Pro Challenge Series event at the Willie Thorne Club in Leicestershire. He was due to meet either Graeme Dott or Barry Pinches in the first round.
