People from across Shropshire and Mid Wales made the most of the last Bank Holiday weekend of the summer by turning out in their droves to events across the region.

Thousands of people flocked to Ellesmere for the town’s carnival on Saturday. Organisers hailed this year’s event, which boasted a packed programme of music and entertainment and a colourful parade, “fantastic”.
Alan Hinton, committee member, said he was pleased with the number of people who had turned out. He estimated more than 5,000 people attended the event.
“Everyone said it was a very good carnival. It was brilliant,” he said, adding organisers and volunteers had done a “great” job.
And organisers said they were delighted with the attendance and standard of entries at this year’s Berriew Show near Welshpool in Mid Wales on Saturday.
Trapeze
Hundreds of people flocked to the village to enjoy a whole host of attractions for all the family.
The show was opened by show president Frank Dixon and among the attractions was a trapeze act called Above and Beyond who proved a hit with visitors.
Other attractions included the Mid Wales Falconry Display team, the K9 Capers dog display team and the Mid Wales Vintage Machinery Club.
Firefighters from Newtown Fire Station were also on hand to give a chip pan fire demonstration and spread the safety message.
Secretary Elaine Davies said: “We were very lucky with the weather. It was a dry day and that helped bring out the crowds.”
Meanwhile, the two-day Shropshire Game and Country Fair was in its final day today and organisers were hoping that up to 15,000 visitors would have passed through the gates at Chetwynd Park, Newport, before the event closed.
The fair is in its 24th year and a host of attractions were on offer in the main arena, from falconry displays and carriage riding to sheep dog demonstrations, archery and dog agility shows.
And a house made of waste wood formed the centrepiece for this year’s Ludlow Green Festival on Saturday and yesterday.
