Woodbridge waits for call

Shropshire’s Nick Woodbridge is hoping to get the call to the British modern pentathlon team to compete at the 2009 European Championships tomorrow.

The Europeans will play an important role in the selection of athletes for this year’s World Championships – at Crystal Palace from August 13-17.

Woodbridge, from New Works in Telford, was one of the first men to represent GB in the modern pentathlon at an Olympic Games in Beijing since Atlanta in ’96.

And that makes him a good bet to make the team for the European Championships in Leipzig, Germany, from June 25-30, the first Europeans to use the new combined run/shoot that is now standard in the sport.
