AFC Telford United look to have missed out on one of their top summer transfer targets – with a move for Barrow striker Nick Rogan all but dead.
Assistant manager Larry Chambers revealed they had spoken to the experienced forward, who is available after the Cumbrians made the decision to move towards full-time football for next season.
Rogan, 25, wants to remain in the part-time game and, with family in Shropshire, a move to the New Bucks Head had been mooted.
But the former Blackpool man, who has scored 38 goals in 111 games for Barrow, is believed to have other offers on the table and a switch to Telford now seems unlikely.
“We’ve spoken to Nick Rogan and considered the option but, financially, it just wouldn’t have been viable,” said Chambers.
“He’s a player we’d like to sign and I will say that we courted him, but he’s got other offers that we couldn’t match.
“I don’t want to make him sound like a mercenary because he’ nothing of the sort and we wish him well, but it wasn’t to be.”
The Bucks only have two strikers on their books for next season at present, with Andy Brown and Danny Carey-Bertram – who scored 41 goals between them – under contract.
Rogan would have provided significant competition to that pair and Chambers remains determined to find re-inforcements before the start of next season.
“You can’t always have everything you want and I believe that things happen for a reason,” he added.
“We’ve got other irons in the fire and we still want to bring a striker in.”
