Crow’s Cheltenham hopes

sheila-crowShropshire’s top point-to-point handler Sheila Crow has not given up on hopes of being able to keep training Cheltenham hero Cappa Bleu next season.

Cappa Bleu exploded onto the national scene with victory in the Foxhunters’ Chase at the Festival last month – and it has been widely reported that he will be joining Welsh National Hunt trainer Evan Williams.

But Crow insists owners William and Angela Rucker have not made a final decision, and would be thrilled to keep him at her yard in Hadnall, near Shrewsbury.

“There’s nothing definite yet,” she stressed today. “I’d love to keep him.

“The owners will have him for the summer holidays and decide then.”

The seven-year-old had been pencilled in for a final run of the season back at Cheltenham tomorrow in the Blade Group Hunters’ Chase.

But Crow and the owners have decided to withdraw him and give him a rest.

“He’s not going to run,” Crow confirmed. “We were waiting for the weather to make a decision.

“But then we thought it was too hard to keep working him and keeping him at home, so we are going to rough him off.

“He’s brought us some great moments this season – I thought when he started to work hard that he could win Cheltenham and he delivered.”
