LETTER: What fantastic news that Asda may be taking over the civic offices. Bring it on!
Telford Town Centre is struggling as it is with the recession, seeing shops closing each day.
The car parking charges are not helping.
Gordon Brown reduced the VAT from 17.5 per cent to 15 per cent in an effort to try and help the economy.
I see the Telford Town Centre car parks did not pass on this reduction to the public.
They say it’s because the machines don’t take small change, but they were quick enough to increase the charges some months ago by 10p or 50p.
Also, for over a week now the barrier at Asda has been out of action, causing tailbacks round the Asda island. On Sunday both barriers on that car park were out of action, causing absolute mayhem.
There are often barriers not working causing delays in or out. With the profit they are making, the car parks should be maintained to a higher standard.
On a Sunday, I ran into The Range and was in and out of the shop in five minutes. I was charged £1 (flat rate). What happened to 50p for the first 30 minutes? Why is that charge not applicable on a Sunday?
It took me longer to pay for my ticket than I was in the shop as only one of the pay machines were working. That, together with the machines not accepting the coins, particularly the £1.
The car park’s answer? “Rub the coin up and down on the side of the machine or pay by debit card”!
Telford Town Centre car parks are a joke.
The sooner they realise they are killing the centre trade the better.

I would not advise this but the council offices are free to park in adjacent to the town centre.

Mike – I said I would not advise parking at the council offices and I would not do such a thing to save paying for parking at the town centre at the weekend however plenty of people have less scruples than myself so would have no problems with this course of action.
