Bucks have mountain to climb

bucks_logo23A disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to York in the first leg of the FA Trophy leaves the Bucks with a mountain to climb at the Kit Kat Crescent next week in the second leg, writes AFC Telford blogger Joe Davies.

The fact that we had numerous players missing from the game through injuries, suspensions and cup ties didn’t help – but it was a poor performance from us and we didn’t really get into the game at all.

Having Lee Vaughan missing was a real blow because of the way he has been playing again this season, but the real selection problems lay elsewhere on the pitch.

Danny Edwards, Phil Trainer and Emeka Nwadike are all cup tied, whilst Jamie Vermiglio is still struggling with his well documented back problem leaving the midfield depleted. Up front their are also problems, with top goal scorers Terry Fearns serving a club suspension,  Danny Carey-Bertram injured and recent signing Mark Danks cup tied.

A huge crowd of 2,792 were there to cheer on the lads but were left slightly disheartened after only 10 minutes when a well worked short corner ended with York going 1-0 up. After 67 minutes York went 2-0 up. And deservedly so.

The difference of York City being full time really showed in the game and the better team clearly won on the day – although the margin of the defeat should have been only one goal.

A long throw into the box by sub Martyn Naylor was blatantly dropped by the York keeper after a collision with his own player and Lee Moore was on hand to put the ball in the net.

However, to everyone’s surprise, the referee ruled out the goal for a supposed foul on the keeper.

Hopefully we can get Vaughan and Carey-Bertram fit for the return leg next week and give York a real game. It would be an amazing achievement to turn the tie around, and comebacks have been made before and they will happen in the future.

Telford fans will again make the trip and will turn up in their numbers to support the lads and hopefully see something spectacular.

Whatever the score in the second leg, as long as the lads have gone out and given it their all, their will be a lot of proud Telford fans out there.
