Confidence pays off

bucks_logo22Despite the controversial 88th minute equaliser on Saturday that denied the Bucks victory at the New Bucks Head, fans and boss Rob Smith remained confident of getting the right result in the replay down at Southport, writes blogger Joe Davies.

Saturday’s result was good enough to show the fans that we should have won there and then, but that wasn’t to be. Smith pointed out after the game that it was “still all to play for” and he was right.

Fans gave Smith some stick for his substitutions, which is disappointing, especially on seeing the quality of the job he has always done and is continuing to do now.

However, he insisted the changes were enforced.

Although it is not good for these players to be playing through injury it is good to see the players wanting to go out there and take one for the team, especially at a time when most players seem just want to take their money and toddle along without doing much.

Carl Rogers got the winner in the 88th minute to send the travelling fans into pandemonium and make a small piece of history for the Bucks.

York City waits in the two-legged semi final, with the first leg at the New Bucks Head on the 14th of March.

Confidence is high that we can beat York City and have a nice day out at Wembley. Winning the tournament  would be a fantastic achievement for everyone associated with the club.

Providing the likes of Andy Brown, Danny Carey-Bertram and Jamie Vermiglio can get back to fitness and everyone can stay fit then we have as good a chance as anyone.

The only down side of the FA Trophy is the fact that Saturday’s draw means a bigger fixture pile up, with tonight’s game against Farsley Celtic having to be re arranged.

Whilst the cup competitions are coming along nicely, the more fixtures that get piled up, the less likely the players will stay fit and sharp and the less chance we have of winning the league.
