The 3-2 defeat to Hyde United means we have not won in three attempts in the league and have lost two consecutive games at the New Bucks Head, writes blogger Joe Davies.
The New Bucks Head had become something of a fortress after the team was unbeaten at home for several months, but since the turn of the new year we have lost both our games there.
After taking the lead 22 minutes in through Carey-Bertram things looked to be getting back to normal, but a slow start to the second half saw us concede twice in three minutes.
Despite equalising with only five minutes remaining we somehow managed to concede again in the 88th minute.
As if losing our second game at home in a row and conceding the winner with only two minutes remaining wasn’t bad enough – it was also the first time this season that we have conceded three goals in one game in the league.
All told these stats are slightly worrying, as it comes at a time when many fans, including myself, had been certain we were going to get promoted.
Things are now looking less convincing for the Bucks as Tamworth remain top of the table, three points ahead of us with the same number of games played, and Southport have one more point than us with two games in hand.
There were, however, two bright notes to come from the game. First, the performance of new signing Phil Trainer suggests he will become an important player for us, and the fact he has played at a higher level is clearly visible.
I think bringing Trainer in was a good move by Rob Smith and Larry Chambers. A goal scoring midfielder was something I mentioned a few weeks ago. We needed one, and hopefully his influence will help us during the run in.
Also, it was good to see Matty Lewis make his first appearance for us since breaking his leg in a pre-season game. His skill and quality on the ball could give us an added option up front which is a bit different to what we have at the moment.
We now go back into cup action at home in the Setanta Shield against Kettering on Tuesday before six consecutive away games.
