LETTERS: I didn’t even really want to go as the thought of having to climb Bridgnorth theatre’s dark steep steps on a cold night in order to sit for a few hours watching amateurs perform some rubbish adaptation of a pantomime seemed distinctly less appealing than a night in the pub.
How wrong I was. It was, in one word, “brilliant”.
Doctor Who’s Tardis would be pushed to match the interior transformation, which while being obviously dated, remains traditionally quaint and warm, with circle seating, balcony seating and a bar.
The show was superb with the jokes coming so fast that I missed several as I was still laughing at the previous ones.
The panto dame was as good as any at theatres in larger cities, as were the other actors who succeeded in engaging the whole audience to participate in the show. The atmosphere was great and we got to meet the actors in the bar afterwards.
In today’s world of poor quality goods at over-inflated prices it was refreshing to see that a quality family night out at an affordable price can still be had, and you even get a bit of exercise climbing the steps.
