The parents of an Oswestry girl who was airlifted to hospital after being involved in a collision with a car have thanked the emergency services for helping their daughter.
Five-year-old Leah Wycherley suffered a broken leg and cuts and bruises after being knocked down by a Ford Galaxy people carrier on Friday.
The Woodside Primary School youngster was flown to Birmingham Children’s Hospital after the collision on Old Fort Road.
It was initially thought she had suffered a head injury in the accident which happened as she walked home with her father Lloyd after the school day.
Police sealed off the area to allow the air ambulance from Cosford to land on Old Fort Road. A land ambulance and a rapid response vehicle also sped to the scene to help the injured youngster.
After being assessed at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, it was found the five-year-old had not suffered any head injuries but had broken her leg.
Leah spent Friday night in hospital in Birmingham and was released on Saturday. She is now recovering at home and will be off school for a number of weeks.
Today her parents thanked all the members of the emergency services who helped their daughter.
Mother Anne, 28, said: “I would like to thank everyone for all their kind thoughts and help at this terrifying time.
“I would like to give a big thank you to West Mercia police and paramedics and ambulance crews.”

Well done to this couple for saying thank you. Having just read an article in tonights paper about a legal advisor complaining about his wife having to wait 3 hours to see a doctor in A&E, its nice to see people saying thank you for once, to those who work in a very difficult environment. The legal advisor needs to be grateful that his wife had minor cuts and bruises - this little girl has a broken leg and it could have been a lot worse!
Im just pleased that she is ok!
