With Friday’s victory over Stafford marking our eighth successive Blue Square North win it would be easy to get carried away and think of promotion for our team, writes AFC Telford blogger Joe Davies.
The latest win leaves us three points off top spot with a game in hand and with goals flying in at one end thanks to the likes of Terry Fearns, Andy Brown, Danny Carey Bartram and Lee Moore, and the likes of Ryan Young, Indy Khela and Gavin Cowan keeping them out at the other.
It would also have been easy for Stafford to roll over and give us the win after the exodus of manager and players over the last week or so, but that was not the case.
We started poorly and Stafford took a one goal lead into the break. However, coming back to score three goals after half time and winning the game makes me believe we have the right mentality and grit in the squad to claw results out of games in which we haven’t been at our best.
This can only be a good sign. Every side needs this trait to be a success and it certainly looks as though we may have it.
One bad thing to come from the game was the departure of Lee Vaughan on a stretcher. I hope it’s not a bad injury.
However, it will be interesting to see who replaces him. Lee Moore did well in the wingback role for the last thirty minutes on Friday and we also had Jimmy Turner sitting on the bench waiting for a chance.
It was good to see a former Telford man in the opposition line-up, Dean Craven. Craven was always a player I liked while he was with us and he always seemed to have an impact on the game and so it was a shame when he quit the club in August 2007.
It will be good to see him return to the New Bucks Head when the teams face each other for the second time in a week on New Year’s Day.
Another three points would be a good starting point for what could be a very good year for the club.

Any other year we’d have been top with worse results than this, so lets sit tight and wait for someone else to slip up. As seen last couple of years, its better being the hunter than the hunted
