Perkins and Minnie as the Lady and the Tramp in this picture mocked up by Full House magazine
A doggy date between a lonely Jack Russell and a cute Yorkshire terrier has turned into a Disney-style love story after the pair were whisked into the world of Lady and the Tramp.
Perkins and Minnie first met at Shrewsbury’s picturesque Weir last month after the pining pooch’s owner John Roberts, of Heathgates Bank, placed an appeal for dates for his dog in the Shropshire Star.
Minnie’s owner Christy Robinson was one of dozens of people who put forward their pets to become a would-be suitor for the handsome Perkins who even had his own modelling portfolio with snaps including him dressed in a bow tie.
Following the encounter the two lovepups were pictured for a mock-up photo shoot where the pair were imposed into a scene based on the hit Disney film Lady and the Tramp where they romantically share a bowl of spaghetti.
Mr Roberts said the photo appeared along with an article in a December edition of the Full House Magazine.
He said it was not yet known whether Minnie was expecting any puppies but he said their love affair had certainly caused a stir.
The river bailiff said that since meeting Minnie, Perkins had enjoyed a meeting with Dusty – a female Jack Russell with yet more dates lined up with Bumbelena from Cheshire and Daisy, also Jack Russells.
He said Perkins no longer troubled him and wife Lynne with his constant howling whenever a female dog walked past the house.
Mr Roberts, who is also chairman of the Shropshire Anglers’ Federation, said: “He’s got two or three dates booked in the New Year and he’s had two affairs. He’s settled down a lot and it has made a hell of a difference for him.
“He was in Full House magazine and there was photos of the two dogs at a restaurant with big bowls of spaghetti and a long string of it they were sharing.”
“I would say he’s matured and it’s done a good job. There is no problem at all now and he’s settled in every respect.”
Mr Roberts said he had received more than 100 e-mails following the story in the Shropshire Star with calls from various magazines and even the producers of the Trisha show on TV.
