Well, what do you think? Here’s an artist’s impression of how the old Smithfield site in Shrewsbury could look.

It is entirely conjectural, and not based on any official proposals.

And, as this is Pictures From The Past, there is of course a twist. This sketch appeared in the Shrewsbury Chronicle 50 years ago, on December 5, 1958, when the future of this site was under discussion.

    I remember the coronation in 1953………in other words H.R.H. was not yet queen and therefore, not a reigning monarch.
