Quad bonus for theft victim Samuel, 3

Samuel Jones on the quad bike that has been stolen by thievesA good Samaritan has put the smile back on a three-year-old Shropshire boy’s face by offering to buy him a new quad bike after thieves stole the one his family bought him as a present.Samuel Jones was devastated after his bike, which he had had for just a month, was stolen from his home near Shrewsbury.

But after seeing the youngster’s sad face in the Shropshire Star, Trevor Bate, managing director of RMP Guarding, Heath Hill Industrial Estate, Dawley, Telford, decided to use his own cash to buy Samuel a new one in time for Christmas.

Mr Bate, 44, said: “I have got the specifications of his old bike from an advert and if the family are happy with that I am willing to pay for it and pay for it to be delivered to his home.

“It will be a brand new one with full guarantee.”

Samuel’s father Dean, of Dorrington, said: “That’s abso- lutely fantastic - unbelievable.

“I’m stunned. We didn’t do it for that reason, we did it to let other people know there are these type of people about. We have since found out a BT man saw a silver Focus about and a woman saw a silver car with two men going up and down people’s drives.

“This new one will be kept in the house. We really thought that was the end of it and Samuel would be without. He thinks it is at the farm where he rides it because we just couldn’t tell him it had been stolen.”

The bike, a Smart Shark 50cc machine, was stolen between 10am and 2pm on Thursday.

    This is a joke right?
    a) There was no need to spend £500 on a present for a 3 year old in the first place
    b) There was no need to buy a 3 year old a potential deathtrap in the first place
    and
    c) there are children in the world who die of hunger each year for whom a fraction of that money would secure their future
    Unbelievable.

    Mr Bate’s your 1 in a million.

Shropshire Saddler get a grip. Too much money goes abroad. We have enough to deal with in our own country.

Just because you can’t afford to spend £500 doesn’t mean no-one else can.

This is typical Britian. Care about yourself and nothing/nobody else. Something which I experience every day. Its always me, me, me, me, me.

Idiot - while its unsettinghe lost his quad bike in no way should a 3 yr old be riding one.

I remember Ozzy Osborne coming off one a couple of years and spending a lot of time in intensive care. Should a 3 yr old be riding a quad bike?

    I think not

I commend the generous gesture of Mr Bate.
If the parents have any sense they’ll a) store the new one more securely, and b) insure it against theft. Mind you, you’d have to question the sense of anyone who let a three-year-old on a quad bike…

Its good to see that there are some kind hearted people in the world. It makes up for the miserable so and so’s that have suggested that a three year old shouldn’t ride a quad bike.

As long as the proper supervision is given and its ridden in a suitable place then good luck to them. As soon as he’s old enough, my little lads will be taught proper gun handling, bike skills and horse riding. He will also understand proper respect for wildlife, the countryside and others.

Good luck to little Sam, his Dad and everyone else who helps the little chap get a proper sense of perspective on the world.

    Spencer,

I’m not so sure about this.
A friend of ours was killed last year driving a quad. Lots of accidents with these vehicles - just ask your local emergency unit. Moreover, far too often they are used in the backcountry by people who have little value for wildlife or the environment - destroying beautiful areas with their noise and destruction.

Buy ya kid some boots or a bicycle - much healthier not only for the kid but the world we share and live in.

I have been riding motorbikes since the age of four, I am still alive and well and feel far more proficient for my 34 years experience than most people who go out and buy a bike at the age of 45-50 just because they are having a mid life crisis..

look its nice that the kid got his quad but i think its true we should be sending £500 quid to people who acctualy need it like peple who are starving in 3rd world countrys.

But it was trevors own money so i guess he can do what he wants with it.
