The £1 billion transformation of Telford town centre was one step closer today after the “masterplan” was handed over to council bosses.
The plan, which includes the details of the huge project, has already been given the backing from residents during public consultation.
Chiefs behind the venture hope Telford Shopping Centre’s transformation into The Round will make the centre “one of the top national town centre destinations” in the country.
Work to triple the size of the Primark store is already under way with the new frontage to the store taking shape.
The Hark and Apollo Group are behind the plans and company bosses said they are the foundation for Telford to become a leading mixed-use development.
It will include new, bigger shops, better food options, 24-hour entertainment and community facilities, including a new health clinic.
Once the housing market recovers, residential development will also be included.
Rob Cossey, Hark director, said: “This document paves the way for us to deliver progressive improvements on a planned basis and I am sure The Round will become a catalyst for other great things in the town.
“We are confident that through The Round other improvements can be made to the wider area outside of the town centre.
“It has been submitted to council officials and we hope to be encouraged by their support to progress.”
