Daly savours super treble after Aintree success

Henry Daly A major meeting treble made for a weekend to remember for Shropshire trainer Henry Daly.

The handler, based at Downton Hall near Ludlow, followed up winners at Ascot and Haydock on Saturday with a victory at Aintree yesterday.

My Moment gave Daly his Aintree triumph in the Weatherbys Bank Maiden Hurdle, having been backed down from 20-1 to 12s.

Carrying the colours of staunch Grand National supporter Trevor Hemmings, the five-year-old had his stamina tested last time out at Exeter.

Richard Johnson set out to make all aboard Daly’s charge and his mount gamely battled over the final two flights to see off 13-8 favourite Fairyland from the in-form Nicky Henderson yard.

Toby Belch gave jockey Paddy Brennan a winner on his first ever ride for Henry Daly in the Huggies Novices’ Hurdle at Ascot on Saturday.

And a quickfire across-the-card double for Daly was completed when 15-2 shot Possol edged home by a neck from Mon Mome in the Timeform Betfair Racing Club Handicap Chase at Haydock.

That formed part of Saturday’s record Scoop6 which saw eight winners each collect £437,011, while there was another Shropshire winner in those allocated races with Richard Lee’s Heathcliff proving most game in the Millionaire Maker Handicap Hurdle at Huntingdon.
