Dave Wynn proves to wife Denise that he can be handy around the houseA Telford man whose television addiction was exposed to millions of viewers today declared: “I’m not Britain’s laziest man.”

Dave Wynn said he regularly helped out with the housework, did all the ironing at home and was a keen cook.

And he insisted that since his own TV appearance he was now paying much more attention to his wife Denise and tuning less into his favourite small screen shows.

Dave, 45, of Woodhouse Crescent, Trench, was featured on the Channel 5 Trisha Goddard show yesterday after being brought on the programme by long-suffering Denise.

He said today: “I would like to think I pay her more attention since the show was filmed two months ago. Over the past few weeks we have gone out quite a lot.”

He insisted: “I am not lazy. I am working five or six days a week. I help with the housework. I do a lot of the cooking. My wife has never ironed an item of my clothing since we married 24 years ago.”

Forty-four-year-old Denise contacted the show to tell how Dave’s obsession with watching television meant he was often oblivious she was in the same room.

She said although the show had given the impression Dave was lazy, it was his TV addiction which was the real problem.

Denise, who works at Co-op supermarket in Trench, described how her family knew exactly when to text Dave to annoy him as he settled down to watch one of his favourite shows, such as ITV1’s Heartbeat.

“He is terrible, he can’t drag himself away from the television,” she said.

Viewers saw how Dave was sent for “man training” by Telford-based experts Sue Hedges and Angie Savchenko who have set up their own online business, www.moanaboutmen.co.uk

Mother-of-two Denise said going on the show, where the couple featured in the section called House Train My Man, had been a wonderful experience.

“We sit down and have tea in the kitchen together. He still watches his television. He tends to have a conversation sometimes with me while he is watching.”

But Denise added that Dave, who works at Ogihara in Hortonwood, did all his own ironing and they shared the cooking.

Dave said family and friends have been teasing him since the show was broadcast.
