
Time to get out your magnifying glass if you’re a Wellingtonian. The hand-written date on the back of this print from our files is May 10, 1973, although the view is probably a few days, or weeks, older than that.
It shows the A442 Dawley road into Wellington in the foreground, and the Arleston estate to the right, with Ercall Junior School on the far left.
At the bottom left corner you can see where the route was being cleared for the M54 motorway.

No wonder Southam’s beer was so thin and yucky. But, we still kept drinking it in the ‘Fishes’. perhaps that is where the Pub got its name too!

This picture makes me cry. I was a young lad who thought it so ‘posh’ to sit, having a pint in an armchair in the George, then pop down to the Raven, round the corner.
