“Overton church yard, 6th wonder of Wales,” is the caption to this undated postcard loaned by Mrs Diana Humphreys, of Maesbrook.
She wonders what the other wonders are – “Pistyll Rhaeadr, I presume and I think maybe the Bells of Aberdovey.”
In fact the Seven Wonders of Wales are revealed by a rhyme: “Pistyll Rhaeadr and Wrexham steeple, Snowdon’s mountain without its people, Overton yew trees, St Winefride wells, Llangollen bridge and Gresford bells.”
The yew trees in Overton-on-Dee’s churchyard are older than the church itself.

No wonder Southam’s beer was so thin and yucky. But, we still kept drinking it in the ‘Fishes’. perhaps that is where the Pub got its name too!

This picture makes me cry. I was a young lad who thought it so ‘posh’ to sit, having a pint in an armchair in the George, then pop down to the Raven, round the corner.
