Shropshire Paralympic silver medallist Ricky Balshaw said his life has been “busy, busy, busy” since returning from Beijing as he revealed he has set his sights on gold in London in 2012.
Ricky, 21, of Shawbirch, Telford, won a silver in the equestrian individual freestyle with his horse Deacons Giorgi at the recent Games and said he wants to go one better next time.
He said: “I can’t wait for London 2012 and I am getting back in training for the event already.
“I can’t wait, it should be a superb occasion for the whole country and I hope I can celebrate a gold medal this time around.”
Ricky, who has cerebral palsy, said his life had been a whirlwind since returning with his medal last month.
“I have been busy, busy, busy since coming back and it is just such a wonderful feeling to be spotted by people in the street,” he said.
“I was getting some fish and chips the other day and someone just came up to me and asked if it was me and shook my hand – it’s lovely.”
Ricky, a former pupil of Thomas Telford School, Telford, took part in a parade of Olympic and Paralympic heroes in London earlier this month, which was “an amazing experience”.
His riding career started when he was three. He started pony riding as part of his physio. He then became a member of the Brockton Court Riding for the Disabled Association, based at The Wyke in Shifnal.
