Town show fighting spirit

Shrewsbury Town FCTown once again show their fighting spirit to come back to draw against Barnet, but it feels like two points lost rather than one gained, writes our blogger James Pugh

It was another slow start from the Town, this time surprisingly at home and once again we found ourselves two goals down, leaving us too much to do.

The concern recently was that we were dropping points away from home, but now we seem to be dropping points against struggling teams like Morecambe, Accrington and Barnet, when really we should be beating them comfortably.

League Two is proving to be an interesting one so far this season, with no teams pulling away at the top and on their day a team can beat anyone. Usually by Christmas at the latest we have an idea of who is going to be in or around the top three, but by the way this league is panning out it may still be very much up in the air. If Town want promotion there need to be at least in the play-off positions by this point.

A big positive to take from the game was the return of Paul Murray who we have really missed and if we he stays fit I think we will be a lot stronger in the middle of the park, which is where we have been struggling in some games. And is it just me or is Richard Walker not looking 100 per cent fit at the moment? I know he has had his injury problems, but he is back in the first team and has not looked as sharp as I expected.

Meanwhile, the game against Brentford may have been another away trip where we failed to win, but credit to the team after coming back from conceding well into the second half. It was further evidence of the fighting spirit the team is playing with this season. Brentford are a good side, and it was good to see we can compete against the best in the division away from home.

It was also nice to see Humphreys score his first in Town colours, especially as he has been unlucky not to break his duck in recent games.

In the eagerly awaited draw for the first round the Town were given a potential banana skin at Blyth Spartans. I must admit when their name came out the draw I didn’t know a lot about them and was hoping to avoid an away draw against teams such as these – I am sure fans remember when we got knocked out to Histon a few years ago. On paper we should comfortably beat them, but the fact that we will have to play at a very small ground against a team fighting for their lives means it will not be easy.

It would be nice to have a decent FA Cup run this season and get an attractive tie in the third round against one of the big boys – I am sure fans also remember our cup success against Everton not so long ago.

Recall Bevan quick when was the last time we won with Garner in goal and see if Ashamoa is available on loan, to give a bit of pace upfront.

It’s not Garner, it’s the defense, they need a wake up call, both at Accrington game and Barnet game, there were asleep in the first 20 min.
Asamoah, who wants a renegade like that ?
