The Renault Clio ‘Papa and Nicole’ advert

Papa and Nicole were one of the most memorable duos on television in the early 90s. The French father and daughter team launched the Renault Clio in 1991 and starred together in a series of Clio ads up until 1998. The advert was later voted by the British public as their favourite car commercial of all time in the 2000 Channel 4 and Sunday Times poll.

The Honda adverts are Much better than the Ford ‘parts orchestra’! Take for example either the choir making all the various sounds for the car travelling or the fantastic record breaking parachute jump for the Accord range.
TBH I think that Ford copied the choir concept.

What about the Honda adverts? Especially the mechanical one which had the domino-style effect.

Why are there no Honda ads featured? Either the ad when all the different parts interact with each other to reveal the honda sign, or the choir doing the travel noise are better than Va Va Voom….. they where interesting & unique and at the very least worth a mention!

    1st place: Honda “parts”
    2nd: Skoda cake
    3rd: Citroen dancing “transformer” car

…but… has anyone seen the spoof of the Citroen dancing car, made from scratch by an animation student and featuring a 2CV? Apart from being technically brilliantly done it has a superb ending :-) I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post a link, but google for dancing 2cv and you’ll soon find it.

The best car advert has to be the mini advert where they get 30 people inside a mini

    Class.
    Has anyone else seen it?

You Brits all missed a brilliant Audi Quattro TV ad in the 80’s. An Audi 100 quattro driving up a ski-jump!
It couldn’t be shown in UK for “legal” reasons as the car used had a modified clutch and was therefore not the car availabe for sale!
Pity because most motoring fans around the world rate that as the best TV car ad ever.

I was wondering what Skoda did with the cake afterwards?
I hope they sent it to the starving in Africa.

And what about the guy who lost everything in the casino, his wife, job etc etc but was still smiling because he had his Golf MkII? And there was the female equivalent with a woman all upset walking out of a relationship, leaving her “old life” behind but smiles as she decides to keep her Golf MKII.
And then what about the Ford advert with Brian May “Everything We Do (Is driven by you)”.
Come on, cast your minds back a bit!
I think these ads were great because that foucus on the emotion link and huge part in our lives that cars play. People don’t give their mobiles and pc’s pet names do they!
But for technical wizard you can’t beat the Golf GTI “Singing in the Rain” with a computer generated Gene Kelly.
Ooops, I might be giving away what I drive here!
