Shropshire cricketer Dan Redfern is preparing for his third winter tour to South Africa.
The Tibberton-based Derbyshire batsman has been named in the England under 19-squad which will spend two-and-a-half weeks in Cape Town and 10 days in Johannesburg from January 5.
Former Shrewsbury School star Jimmy Taylor, now with Leicestershire, is also in the touring party who will play five one-day internationals, two Twenty20 matches and one Test against their Proteas counterparts.
“It’s always a thrill to get picked to play for England and I’m looking forward to it,” said Redfern who, like Taylor, was part of the squad which reached the quarter finals of the Under-19 World Cup earlier this year before bowing out to eventual finalists India.
“I’ve been to South Africa twice before with England under 16s and Derbyshire Academy and it’s a great place to tour.
“Hopefully I can get runs for England over the winter and be in a position to go straight into the Derbyshire first team at the start of next season.”
Redfern and Taylor both have the guarantee of a contract for two more years with their respective First Class counties in the East Midlands
