Pizza Hut has changed its name to Pasta Hut in an attempt to update its image in the UK and attract more customers.
As consumers shun restaurants in favour of cheaper takeaways or pub fare, Pizza Hut is ditching its brand in 30 branches to highlight a new menu focussed on pasta dishes.
The company, owned by Yum! Brands, is spending £100 million over the next six years to revamp its chain, helping it to become more upmarket.
Customers will have a wider range of dishes to choose from, which will also be healthier, and nutritional information will be displayed within stores.
The new pasta dishes will also be on the takeaway menu to take advantage of the growing eat-in market.
Chief executive Alasdair Murdoch said: “We’re trying to say to people, ‘Yes, we’re great at pizzas, but we’re also great at salads and pasta’.”
However, the name is only for a trial period and customers can vote on the change at www.pastahut.co.uk.

Will a different name entice me to eat there ? No.
Would I be more inclined to dine there if the salad bar wasn’t at a level where children can dip their fingers in as they pass by with their unattentive parents? Yes.

Coming to a high street near you - Kentucky Grilled Lettuce. Salad King. Mmmm - must try the pizza with pasta topping. Sorry but I really can’t hear parents up and down the country getting much response from the kids when they say “Who want’s to go out for a pasta?”
Many people like to eat food that is not healthy (which is thier choice) and chains like KFC, Maccy D’s and all the other burger bars will always have an endless queue of people wanting more. At the end of the day the fast food companies really don’t care about healthy eating (or they would have closed down by now), like any other business they are there to make money and until there are laws to stop them selling the rubbish they sell then they will continue. Anyone fancy a kebab?

it is overpriced and i wouldn’t eat there whatever it is called. my advice is stick with the name that is known. presumably the salads are full of credit crunch

Pizza and pasta can both be pretty healthy foods -provided you use plenty of fresh ingredients and don’t go overboard on the melted cheese etc.
The sad thing is that many people can’t be bothered these days to cook such food. There are plenty of healthy, tasty dishes that can be cooked quickly and cheaply at home, without using processed agreements.
Mediterranean food definitely lends itself to this approach, and is also usually popular with children - my advice is the occasional takeaway is OK as a treat, but the rest of the time try to educate your kids to eat well at home - and please, teach them how to cook!

Markyb - why have you been brainwashed that McDonalds sell rubbish? Its actually more healthy (look at weight watchers for evidence) to eat a chicken mcnuggetts meal than your average bag of crisps and a couple of sandwiches from a motorway service station.
These fast food places are actually quite healthy - its the sandwich bars and other outlets who are conning the public into thinking they are eating healthy.
Id prefer to eat a McDonalds or KFC - at least I know what Im getting - eat a ‘healthy ham sandwich’ and you are eating pigs ears with a bucket of salt and mayo three times more fattening than a KFC.

if the pasta is the same as they used to serve, over cooked, overprocessed, then a name change won’t help them. At least the pizza was half way decent at Pizza Hut.
