Steps to halt park trouble

Police in Oswestry have taken steps to curb anti-social behaviour in Cae Glas Park.

In recent months there have been complaints about criminal damage being caused and youths drinking in the park.

But at a meeting of the St Oswald and Ruyton-XI-Towns local joint Committee yesterday, Constable Scott Harrower said police officers were monitoring the situation.

He told the meeting youths congregating at the park had caused them “difficulty” over the summer months, and damage had been caused to property, including a memorial bench, which had upset some residents.

However, Constable Harrower said: “Police community support officers (PCSOs) have been in there.

“They have been concentrating on weekends when there are a lot of problems up there.”

He said the work had been fairly successful with a “significant amount of alcohol being seized”.
