Manager Paul Simpson today threw down the gauntlet to his Shrewsbury Town team - by challenging them to produce unbeaten runs of between 10 and 15 games.
Town head to Darlington tomorrow in buoyant mood after accumulating seven points from the last available nine.
Simpson wants those kind of mini-sequences to be the catalyst for lengthy spells without defeat.
“To be successful you need to be consistent over a long period,” said the Town boss. “So far we are talking about eight League games. In those eight, we have had one shocking performance at Morecambe, an indifferent performance at Notts County and Exeter away we got a bit of a pummelling but came away with the result.
“Out of those eight, there maybe have been a few games where we haven’t been fantastic and not been consistent - but we got results.
“I want a level of consistency where we are talking about unbeaten runs of maybe 10, 12 and 15 games because that is what is required to get out of this League.”
Despite last week’s shock 3-1 reverse at Bournemouth, Darlington are another team expected to be in the promotion shake-up come the end of the season.
But Simpson is determined to build on the feelgood factor generated by excellent home performances and results against Gillingham and Bradford in the last fortnight.
“In the past, this club in particular has built itself up and got itself to a point where the crowds start coming in again and it all goes flat,” he added.
“Last weekend (against Bradford) we had about 500 extra home supporters to go along with 900 travelling ones and the performance and the result was right.
“Now if we can go to Darlington and do it properly again against another fancied side, hopefully the week after most of those 500 will want to come back and maybe even some more.
“The more we can boost the crowds here and the more the club can push forward and improve more.”
Simpson’s main selection issue will be to decide whether to recall Richard Walker or stick with striker Dave Hibbert.

darlington seems one of those difficult games like our game at home to gillingham. so 7 more goals please. floreat salopia
Unfortunately I think Paul Simpson’s comments could be the kiss of death for the result at Darlington. I would prefer if those sort of comments which are a throw back to the Gary Peters days were not said.
Sadly I think it will be a case of tonight looking to start a new undefeated run with our next game!!!
What a perfect comment to come back and bite him in the bum towards the end of the season! Has he employed Gary Peters speech writers? He’ll be blaming lost games on grass and the wind next.
i for one am very happy with a point at darlo., perhaps we can save another goal blitz for next weekend
WOW sorry expat here reading the news just seen this ….Shrewsbury town .. what you doing this can’t be right. but i’m with denis , never mind it was good to see .prove us wrong, come on the town….

I think shrewsbury town should just give up and let the new grounds be used for something more interesting.
Shrewsbury Town are the football club on people’s lips at the moment, and with a squad like we have, and a manager like we have, we deserve to be the talking point. Just wait till we get a few more solid league results and a good cup run under our belts then everyone will be shouting. Good things are happening, it’s up to all you Town fans to decide whether you wanna be a part of it now, or when the parties have passed by you.
