A special meeting on the controversial plans for the co-location of Shrewsbury’s two colleges is to be held “in a large venue”.
Discussions of the plans are expected to take place later this year after a revised transport assessment was drawn up looking more closely at projected traffic flows.
This assessment and the travel plan are available for viewing and public comment from today in Shrewsbury’s Guildhall.
Jon King, spokesman for Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council, said: “The planning application for the co-location of the two Shrewsbury colleges has generated a great deal of public interest and involvement.
“Because of the complex effects on the local and strategic road network of the traffic arising from the co-location it has been necessary for the applicants, in close consultation with the Highways Agency, to undertake more detailed modelling of the projected traffic flows.
“Because of the large numbers of public making representations on this planning application the council intends to hold a special meeting, in a large venue, of its development control and environmental protection committee to consider just this application.”
The plans are for a three- storey building and sports hall, a multi-use games area and all-weather playing pitch with floodlighting.
They also include proposals for a new access road and mini-roundabout to provide new facilities for the co-location project, together with associated access roads, parking and external social space and change of use of agricultural land to use for recreational open space.
If the plans are approved it would see Shrewsbury Sixth Form College, currently based at Priory Road, relocated to London Road at a shared site with Shrewsbury College.
Anybody who wishes to comment further as a result of the additional documents is asked to do so in writing within the next 14 days.
The time and date of the meeting to discuss the plans will be issued by the council shortly.
