Young ace Robson in the semi-finals

Picture:  Peter Flemmich.Wimbledon junior champion Laura Robson reached the semi-finals of the women’s £40,000 event at Shrewsbury’s Welti Centre with a 6-3 6-3 win over Tzipora Obziler of Israel.

Robson took just an hour and three minutes to defeat Obziler, the world number 137, breaking her 35-year-old opponent’s serve three times.

The 14-year-old is the lone British player remaining in the draw following defeats for Elena Baltacha and Katie O’Brien.

“I am very pleased with the way I played,” said Robson following her victory.

“Martijn (Bok, her coach) and I talked through the game plan before I went on and it obviously worked.”

Robson’s semi-final opponent is Maret Ani who beat Belgian Kirsten Flipkens 7-6 (3) 6-3 in their quarter’final match which opened yesterday’s play on Court One.

Estonian Ani is 26-years-old and is ranked No 161 in the world.
