Ice creams and thieving pot bellied pigs!

Vehicle rental company Europcar has revealed some of the strangest excuses from their customers for damage to cars or late returns, from horses sitting on the bonnet to nasty accidents with ice-creams.

But staff at the York branch were particularly astounded to hear one customer’s excuse - his family’s pot-bellied pig had taken a shining to the rental car keys and taken them outside to her water bowl. 

When the customer went to retrieve them, both the keys and the car had disappeared. It was later recovered having been stolen by a youth, who was subsequently arrested!

Catriona Lougher of Europcar said: “Europcar staff are certainly kept on their toes by customers and there is never a dull day in the office with some of these stories. But staff are always professional and understanding no matter how bizarre the reason for damage or late return.”
