Stars of the final ever pantomime to be staged at Shrewsbury’s Music Hall say they cannot wait to play their part in a special chapter in its illustrious history.
Cast members of John Spillers’s Robin Hood production put on a special preview performance yesterday at the historic venue.
And with some shows during the Christmas spectacular already sold out, the performers said they could not wait to get on stage and help make the panto one of the best ever.
Actor Jim Alexander, who has appeared in TV shows such as London’s Burning, The Bill and Dream Team, will be the main star, but will be supported by a large cast which includes comedian Ben Nickless, as his trusty sidekick Will Scarlett, and Katie Leigh, providing the love interest in Maid Marion.
Mr Nickless, who is back by popular demand following his performance two years ago in Aladdin, said he was delighted to be a part of the last ever show at the Music Hall.
He said: “I am very excited and I really enjoyed it last time. It’s one of the most lovely audiences I think in the whole of the country.
“I have done modern theatres which are all nice to be in and the audience is comfortable but for the performers it’s the old theatres - the ones we have grown up in and are nice and lively which I personally prefer.”
Miss Leigh said she could not wait to perform in front of the Shrewsbury crowd this winter.
She said: “I am really looking forward to it because I have never been to Shrewsbury before and it’s such a beautiful place, everybody seems so friendly here. Being part of the last ever show is quite an honour in a way and I am quite overwhelmed by it.”
John Spiller, show producer and writer, said: “We always love coming to Shrewsbury, the town looks wonderful all year round but there is something magical about Shrewsbury at Christmas, there’s always a special atmosphere and I’m delighted to be part of it.”
The show will be performed twice a day between December 3 and January 4 and tickets are available online at www.musichall.co.uk or from the Box Office on (01743) 281281.
