Gorge to aid small business

The Ironbridge Gorge could soon become the first national centre for Britain’s growing army of home-based entrepreneurs.

The idea is to give would-be tycoons the facilities and advice to make their business dreams come true.

Officials hope it will help to create hundreds of jobs and be the first of a network of home-working business hubs in Shropshire and the UK.

Enterprise HQ will open in January next year in the historic John Rose building in Coalport, once the base of the renowned 19th century china works boss.

It will offer meeting studios, a boardroom, front desk services and the latest computer equipment.

Claimed to be the first project of its kind in Europe, Enterprise HQ will cost £760,000 and is being largely funded by the European Regional Development Fund as part of a £4 million package for Telford.

Councillor Eric Carter, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, said: “This is great news for the borough.”

The scheme was approved by cabinet last night.
