Rider killed in smash

A motorcyclist has died after his bike collided with a lorry and a car on a Powys road. The crash happened on the A44 Llangurig to Aberystwyth road, at about 2.30pm yesterday, near Llanidloes.Police said today the dead man, who has not been formally identified, is believed to be in his 30s and from the North Wales area. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sian George, Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman, said: “The collision, which happened about two miles out of Llangurig, near Llanidloes, involved three vehicles - a silver Renault Clio, a blue HGV and a red and blue Honda motorcycle.

“As a result of the collision, the rider of the motorcycle, a man in his 30s from North Wales, received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The road was closed for a few hours for an accident investigation to take place, but was open again by early evening.”

Councillor Gareth Morgan, Powys County Council member for Llanidloes, said it was a dangerous stretch of road.

“This is another very sad accident on the A44, which leaves me wondering when something is going to be done to make that road safer,” he said.

“It sounds like a very nasty crash and it took place on a very narrow winding road.”
