Shrewsbury have become the leading lights of Shropshire cricket after sealing their return to play the elite of the Midlands.
The London Road outfit clinched their third Birmingham League division one title in six years - and a return to the top flight - with Saturday’s seven-wicket win over Dorridge.
With Shifnal suffering relegation from the premier division, Shrewsbury will become the county’s highest graded team from next season.
Captain Ed Foster is confident his team are now better equipped to cope with the demands of the premier division, after suffering relegation in each of their last two campaigns at that level.
“To be the seen as the best side in Shropshire is very pleasing and hopefully we can do everyone in the county proud next season,” said Foster, who was forced to leave his side’s celebrations prematurely on Saturday night to attend a wedding reception.
“It has been a great year for us and we have done it with a very young side.
“There was only one player on Saturday who was over the age of 23 (Jon Anders) so it bodes very well for the future.
“I firmly believe if this squad of players had been playing in the premier division this season, we would have survived.
“I think it’s the strongest side Shrewsbury have taken into the premier division so hopefully we can keep this squad together and give it a good crack next season.”
l It was also celebration time for Allscott who clinched the FBC Manby Bowdley division one title in amazing fashion.
A draw at Acton Reynald was enough to win the championship - but that only told half the story with the leaders racking up an incredible 449-3 declared off 44.5 overs.
The 10-an-over innings was largely down to Carl Starling, who finished unbeaten on a mammoth 236 off just 151 balls.
