Fan in the van

Meet the fan in the van!

Football fans across the country will have the opportunity to vent their views from the comfort of a British-built Vivaro Doublecab during the 2008-09 season, thanks to a tie-in between Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles and talkSPORT radio.

A specially-liveried Vivaro will be touring the UK during the football season, with the show’s presenters carrying out live interviews with fans on their way to matches to build up the atmosphere in the prelude to a big game.

‘Fan in the Van’ participants will be given the opportunity to air their opinions on their team’s performance throughout the season, and to predict the outcome of matches live on talkSPORT’s Saturday Match Day Live programme.

I must admit that the 70 limit on M-Ways is totally outdated, and assumes - as does the Highway Code with regard to stopping distances - that we all still drive Ford Anglias. EVO Magazine a few years ago tested the performance of an E-Type Jaguar from 1965 against a 1.6 Ford Focus. Crucially, and notwithstanding all of the pro-active crash protection in the Focus, the Ford stopped from 70mph in half the distance the Jag could.

Raising the limit to 80 in line with our European neighbours is sensible. We live in a world of “speed dating”, “next day delivery”, “high speed broadband”, “instant messaging”, yet personal mobility seems to be subject to slowing down.

    Odd.
