Shropshire professional John Maunders has secured a passage back into the First Class game.
The left-handed opener, formely of Leicestershire, has spent this season playing Minor Counties cricket for Shropshire.
But the 27-year-old has also been on trial at Essex and has done enough to earn a deal for the remainder of the season.
Maunders has averaged 53.50 and 47.50 in the Second XI Championship and Trophy respectively.
He was part of the squad which has travelled to Northampton for the LV County Championship game which was due to start yesterday before rain forced the abandonement of the entire day’s play.
