Roads remained impassable and schools closed as heavy rain continued to pelt down on areas already “saturated” by water.

Children were being told to keep away from Brockton CE Primary School, near Much Wenlock, amid fears a nearby dam could collapse under the weight of more water.

Today, Amanda Ferreira, the mother of teenager Louise Valerie, of London, who was killed when a car plunged into a swollen river at Llyn Briane Reservoir, Llanwrtyd Wells, on Friday has today paid tribute to her “little angel”.

And with more rain predicted for the rest of the week the Environment Agency has reminded people to remain vigilant and keep up-to-date with the current weather and flood warnings for their area.

Mark Sitton-Kent, for the Environment Agency, said: “As the wet weather continues we need people to continue to be aware of the current situation in their area, and make any necessary preparations.”

Shropshire Star weatherman John Warner said a rain belt moving in from the south-west was to blame for today’s downpours and, although the heaviest would have fallen by lunchtime, there was more on the way during the week.

He said: “Another belt of rain is due tomorrow, although Wales will bear the brunt of it, and there is more expected on Thursday and Friday.”

River Severn levels across Shropshire remain steady with flood watches in place from Melverley to Buildwas and flood warnings from Coalport to Highley. The Frankwell Car Park in Shrewsbury is now open but the flood barriers remain up.

Several roads and fords were closed today including Lower Corve Street in Ludlow and Sydney Avenue and Gravel Hill Lane, both in Shrewsbury.

The church deanery service at St Mary’s, Bitterley, tomorrow is now at St Laurence’s Church, College Street in Ludlow from 7.30pm because of flooding.
