Previous owners’ shock at blaze

Previous owners of the fire-ravaged property have spoke of their upset following the fire which ripped through the house on Tuesday morning.

Peter and Margaret Eccleston, of Llynclys, lived in the property for 12 years, but sold it 16 years ago. They lived in the three-storey part of the house, with the outbuildings used as cow sheds and a garage.

Mrs Eccleston said: “It has been done up quite a lot since we lived there, but it is quite sad what has happened to it really.

“The part that has burned down from what I can see is the old part we lived in. The other part was the cow shed that was made into living quarters. It has been renovated.

“I keep watching it on television and the bedrooms we slept in now have gone. It’s just awful.”She said her daughters, now 26 and 22, were upset by the blaze, as they had grown up at the property. Mrs Eccleston said: “There was 16 acres when we were there but they are saying six now, some must have been sold off. It’s just awful.”

But she said she did not know the Foster family. “As far as I understand from friends in Maesbrook they kept themselves to themselves,” she said.

The property is believed to have had two more owners after Mrs Eccleston, before it was sold to the Fosters.
