Smith is seeking a switch for pair

Asa CharltonBoss Rob Smith is looking for new clubs for recuperating AFC Telford United duo Simon Forsdick and Asa Charlton - because he does not want them cup-tied.Left wing-back Forsdick has had two outings for Nuneaton Town in the BGB Southern League, while Charlton has enjoyed three run-outs for Midland Alliance side Shifnal.

But they will have to continue their recovery from injury elsewhere, with Nuneaton and Shifnal both involved in FA Cup clashes this weekend.

Telford enter the competition in the second qualifying round on September 27, and Smith hopes both defenders will be back by then.

“Asa’s done okay and I think he’s quite enjoyed it at Shifnal but he needs a few more games and we’re trying to get him linked up at Stourbridge,” the Bucks chief revealed.

“It ups the standard for him as Stourbridge are in a higher league, and it should suit all parties.

“We’re looking to get Fozzy (Forsdick) another game as well. He’s done okay but he still feels a bit rusty so we’re looking to sort something out.

“Nuneaton are in the FA Cup too so he can’t stay there, but I want him playing and getting fit - I’m keen to get him back because we need the balance he gives us on the left-hand side.”

Meanwhile, Smith insisted there was a lot more to come from his side, and backs them to build on their solid start to the Blue Square North season.

The Bucks have won three and drawn two from their first five, though the honest Telford chief accepts they have hardly set the world alight with their football yet.

“Individually people think they can perform better, but as a squad we’re upbeat because we’re up there and we know we’re not playing well yet,” he said.

“Everyone’s just waiting for us to put in a good performance and I think we will soon. The new lads are showing an understanding of the system and we will get there.”
