Rob Brydon presents the award to Nick Porter and Andrew MasonA SHREWSBURY company is celebrating after clinching the title of British Mortgage Adviser of the Year 2008, one of the most prestigious awards within the financial services industry.

Mortgage Port, of Bellstone, Shrewsbury picked up the honour at a ceremony held at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Mortgage advisers Nick Porter and Will Mason, of Mortgage Port, were nominated for the annual awards earlier this year along with several thousand other advisers all hoping to win the coveted title and last month both Nick and Will were shortlisted for the awards.

Twenty one of the most senior figures from all sectors of the industry, including lenders, brokers, networks, trade bodies and clubs, formed the independent judging panel to debate the nominations, read the testimonials of those shortlisted and to produce a final three nominees for each pf the categories.

James Prosser, commercial director of events for Incisive Media’s Mortgage Division, said it was a testament to the commitment of the mortgage industry that despite current market conditions, the sheer volume and range of nominations had been greater than ever.

Andrew Mason, director of Mortgage Port, was at the ceremony with Nick to watch the Oscars-style ceremony brought to a close, with TV comedian Rob Brydon opening the final golden envelope and announcing Nick Porter and Mortgage Port as the winner of the Overall British Mortgage Adviser 2008.

Andrew said: “We are extremely proud of both Nick and Will for being picked for the awards shortlist and we are delighted that Nick has won the overall award, this clearly places us among the elite of a very competitive industry.”
