Milestone for cancer campaign

An appeal to raise the cash needed to build a much-needed new cancer centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital has reached the £2.5 million mark.

Fundraisers at the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre Appeal are celebrating the milestone and thanked the public for their support.

The cancer centre will provide a clinic for patients with leukaemia or cancer of the blood, provide en suite rooms for patients with head or neck cancer, and extend the existing chemotherapy day centre for patients from Shropshire and Mid Wales.

The target to build the new facilities is £3.2 million.

Fundraising manager, Eryl Williams, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped to raise this tremendous amount of money.

“Although we have a further £700,000 to raise before we can start to build the new cancer centre, it would be really wonderful if we could reach the target by our 30th anniversary next year.”
